Changes In Federal Gift And Estate Taxes
The bill under consideration by Congress would replace the current $60,000 estate and $30,000 gift exemptions with a gradually increasing credit, with a $525,000 tax-free ceiling to spouses and lower tax rates for smaller estates. It would tax capital gains on gifts and estates differently, allow a 10 year tax payment option, and curb tax shelters while altering farm land valuations to reduce taxes.
