In Minneapolis AP says Episcopal House of Bishops approves equal eligibility for candidates to priest and bishop orders by a 5 to 61 vote at the convention. Deputies vote expected next, with potential immediate change if another proposal passes to align with Canadian practice.
A government study recommends abolishing the one cent piece by 1980 due to rising production costs and low spending use. It also suggests replacing half dollars with a new smaller one dollar coin and calls for Mint Treasury review.

Hickson testified in General Sessions Court as Tinsley faced six indictments for receiving stolen goods tied to 23 auto tires and five vehicles recovered by the sheriff and North Augusta police.
The 1976 77 United Way drive in Aiken County has surpassed the 100 percent mark with 11 percent of the $420 000 goal raised through advance gifts.
