Two Vietnam Medal of Honor recipients honored at White House
President Obama awarded the Medal of Honor to Army Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins and Army Spc. Donald P. Sloat in a White House ceremony. Adkins survived 38 hours of combat and a jungle escape after refusing to abandon his comrades. Sloat shielded fellow soldiers by absorbing a grenade blast, dying in service.
