DOE to announce environmental study for Savannah River reactor
Energy officials plan to publish in the Federal Register a notice outlining the scope of an environmental impact statement for a 4 billion kilowatt heavy water reactor at SRP. Public comments and hearings are to be invited with hearings in November and December in Aiken Savannah and Columbia. Westinghouse says it will pursue the NPR contract and take over SRP operations from Du Pont on April 1. Marcus and Moore say construction could begin within 3 1/2 years after license approval.
