Local crafter returns to Makin with silk arrangements
North Augusta crafter Jane Bell returns to Aiken's Makin after the loss of her husband Marion this March. Supported by son Tim and daughter Cindy, she showcased silk flower pieces under a shade tree across from St Mary Help of Christians Church. The floral exhibit drew shoppers and Bell credited the fair’s organization and security for her triumphant comeback.

Babies posed for NFL locker room poster project
Thirty two infants under one year old and their mothers gathered at Building Blocks Center for photographs to be used in a poster promoting health care awareness in NFL locker rooms. Photographer Todd Lista and art director Meg Haring described coordinating the group and the finished image will combine the 32 babies into a computer generated collage with team logo outfits.

Isabel Reaches Category Five As Storm Nears Coast
Hurricane Isabel strengthens to 160 mph sustaining winds, reclassified from category four after eye survey. Forecasters say the slow moving storm could threaten the East Coast, with models showing a turn toward the Carolinas in five days and Isabel centered northeast of Puerto Rico early Saturday.

Aiken district to announce teacher of the year Monday
The Aiken County School District will honor its school based teachers of the year and announce the new district teacher of the year at a 7 p.m. banquet in Aiken municipal building. Former district winner Jason Fulmer is on sabbatical touring the state as a teaching ambassador and will be referenced in remarks by Dr. Linda Eldridge. Sen.
