Festival stirs mixed reviews over Aiken’s Makin relocation

On day one of the 27th Aiken's Makin' festival vendors reacted differently to moving Park Avenue locations from between Laurens and Chesterfield streets. Some praised the setup and crowd flow, others reported lower sales due to tents crowding together and a shift from the Fairfield Street area. Several called the move promising long term benefits after an adjustment period.

Soldier recovering after Iraq injury linked to Fort Jackson unit

Laurie Reese, assistant principal at North Aiken Elementary, reports her husband Sgt. William Reese is recovering after injuries from an explosion in Iraq. He underwent two leg surgeries, was sent to Germany, and is expected to fully recover. He and another soldier received Purple Hearts.

Border Bash brings Gamecocks Bulldogs clash to Augusta

Thousands gathered at the Augusta Common for the Border Bash fund raiser honoring football teams from the University of Georgia and University of South Carolina. The pro Georgia crowd supported the event held Friday evening as a music and beer themed fundraiser for the Children's Medical Center.

Officer honored for heroic actions with scarred sentiment

Cpl. Dave Flanders of the Aiken Department of Public Safety wears a Medal of Valor after pulling 71 year old Edward E Platt III from a Riviera Road home fire in May 2002. Platt later died from injuries, leaving the officer uneasy about the award though proud of his action.
