Press secretary John DeCrosta says doctors may decide to adjust prescriptions and dosages to assist him.
Sen. Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, 96, was admitted to Walter Reed Army Medical Center for tests and observation after reporting fatigue. His press secretary said doctors expect release today and will review medications and dosages. Thurmond, a long serving senator since 1954, says he plans to serve his term.
Voters head to polls Tuesday for the Republican City Council primary in Precinct 6 at City Hall. Millbrook Aiken Levels Gem Lakes precincts vote at H Odell Weeks Activities Center on Whiskey Rd. Sprawls and Papouchado outline differing five year priorities including growth, crime reduction, public safety, and neighborhood protection.
Auditions Sunday at Powder House kennels for the dog Sandy in the Aiken Kidney Benefit production of Annie. Seven dogs tested, evaluated on temperament, look, and crowd tolerance. Winner Arlene, a two year old mixed breed, edged runner up Missy Sue, owner Sammie Jo Huff stetler saying she’s a standout.
Hurricane Floyd in the Atlantic approaches Category 5 strength with winds near 155 mph. A hurricane watch covers Florida east coast from Flagler Beach to Hallandale while a northwest Bahamas warning remains in effect. Forecasters place Floyd about 195 miles east of San Salvador and predict a possible landfall between West Palm Beach and Cocoa Beach by Wednesday.
The week marks two deadly shootings at North Augusta DSS and the R E Phelan Co in Aiken County. David Mark Hill 38 and Arthur Hastings Wise are in state custody as prosecutors seek the death penalty. Hill targeted the DSS office Sept 16 1996 killing three and injuring another. Wise fired at Phelan Co workers Sept 15 1997 killing four. Judge Marc H Westbrook to preside over Hill's capital case.
