Domestic violence data sparks call for legal reform and local support
Nationwide statistics show 93 percent of female homicide victims were killed by men they knew, with many victims wives or partners. Local officials in Aiken note high priority for DV calls, promote shelters and protection orders, and back a criminal domestic violence court. South Carolina lawmakers push a Specialized Domestic Violence Ad Hoc Committee to strengthen laws, raise bonds, and boost public awareness with input from groups like the Cumbee Center. Victims can contact Cumbee Center or the National Domestic Violence Hotline for help.
