Mirshak outlines waste to glass plan for Savannah River plant
Sam Mirshak described a 2 billion facility to convert 80 million gallons of radioactive waste into immobilized glass for federal storage. The plan envisions a 1200 foot long building, 10 stories high, with 600 staff and 5,000 construction workers, starting 1982 and completing 1987, to hold waste in 10 000 steel cylinders until a repository is ready.
