Water charge sparks reader ire at local eateries
A reader criticizes restaurants that charge for water, saying the policy reflects greed rather than the economy. The writer cites personal experiences with multiple establishments and vows not to return, advising others to learn each restaurant's policy.
Freedom of choice in TalkBack on smoking at workplaces
A reader argues that exposure to cigarette smoke should lead customers to avoid businesses that allow smoking. The letter frames rights as mutual, noting that both employees and patrons can protect their own freedoms by choosing where to spend time, implying the issue hinges on personal rights rather than restricting others.
Water costs restaurants too: readers weigh in
Former restaurant owner argues water should not be free at any restaurant noting costs to supply water hire staff to deliver wash and sanitize glasses and that beverages cost roughly the same to serve as water. As diesel stays high and schools face campus fights readers call Talkback line to share views and emails.
