Victims of 9 11 remembered at sites nationwide

On the second anniversary of the September 11 attacks, victims are honored across the country. Bells toll as wreaths are laid and names read aloud. At Ground Zero 2,792 names are read by volunteers including 11 year old Madilyn Morris. Moments marked include Flight 175, the towers’ collapse, and the Pentagon observance.

Miracle twins born during 9 11 crisis thrive after TTTS surgery

Christie Bradford of Aiken faced a life threatening twin to twin transfusion syndrome TTTS during a 15 week twin pregnancy. An in utero placental procedure at St Josephs Women s Hospital Tampa produced healthy twin girls Kate and Anna born Sept 11 2002. The Bradfords celebrate their first year with Collins now 3 and aim to raise TTTS awareness especially in rural areas where diagnosis is often missed.

Edward Teller H-bomb pioneer dies at 95

Edward Teller, 95, the H bomb pioneer and Manhattan Project member, died sparking memories in Aiken of the Savannah River Site. North Augusta resident Bill Reinig recalled lunch with Teller in 1991 and called him sharp and brilliant. Local officials praised Teller as a visionary who helped attract growth to the region and believed his work promoted peace through strength.

Tenenbaum courts voters in U S Senate bid in South Carolina

State education chief Inez Tenenbaum campaigned in Aiken outlining her Senate ambitions. She cited No Child Left Behind governance and promised focus on education and economic development to aid South Carolina jobs and manufacturing. She spoke to Public Education Partners as she seeks the Democratic nomination to replace Sen. Hollings.
