Jerry McAlister reports a bright, hovering craft 25 feet above his two acre yard near Anderson. Deputies and neighbors watched for two hours as the object moved toward Greenville and vanished above the pines, with Greenville Jet Port noting radar limits at low altitude.
A one car crash on Wire Road near Seigler's Crossroad killed 20 year old Marty T. Shealy of Aiken. The Aiken County Coroner reported the fatality occurred at 1 10 a m with Shealy dying at the scene after leaving the road and striking a telephone pole.
A 25 year service recognition for Sophie Jeancake at the Palmetto Package Shop included a dinner where her boss presented a roll of dimes for the time instead of a watch. In related notes from Judy Adams' gifted class, a special limousine was used for a summer field trip to Columbia.
North Augusta and Aiken officials debated the 1981 82 Public Service Authority budget amid the potential loss of 12 7 million in ICR funding. The plan would raise 32 cents per 1000 gallons with 6 cents for operating costs and depreciation disputes linger over ICR use. EPA rules limit ICR to expansion and upgrades, not depreciation, sparking court questions and possible arbitration.
Eight dollars tops the old rate before Aiken joined the PSA and shifted to higher minimums. City Manager Windham defends the structure as needed to cover operating costs while residents complain their outdoor water may not enter the sewer yet still being billed.

Sidewalk arts and crafts and industrial exhibits are on display. The Midland Valley Athletic Booster Club sets up a flea market selling old football uniforms and MVHS souvenirs. Concessions will be available. The festival aims to show Valley offerings tied to its shopping center growth.
