U S Air Force extends heavy raids against North Vietnamese forces around Fire Base O'Reilly near the Laotian border. B52 bombers drop nearly 300 tons on bunkers and base areas within seven miles of the base. Fighter bombers press closer to hit mortars and rockets amid about 500 shells this week.
San Diego AP reports Surgeon General Jesse L. Steinfeld calls smoking self destructive and urges movies TV and stage to quit glamorizing it. He notes federal policy limits cigarette sales in hospitals and tightens smoking areas with stronger education for staff and patients.
The U S government will pay up to 9 763 815 of the 23 990 000 insured value of the Pan American 747 destroyed by Palestinian guerrillas in Cairo.
