Fort Gordon holds 9/11 ceremony with cannon salutes

At Fort Gordon a Friday morning ceremony remembered the Sept 11 attacks. Firefighters law enforcement and post leaders attended near Signal Towers as the flag lowered to half staff. A cannon team fired at 8 46 a m and again at 9 30 9 37 and 10 03 a m with taps and sirens marking the World Trade Center attacks.

Jackson Boat Landing Erosion Project To Start Soon

Aiken County Parks Department says erosion at Jackson Boat Landing along the Savannah River will be addressed with a 326683 dollar project led by R L Morrison & Sons. Work includes sheet piling drainage and rip rap, with boat access during construction and hours 8 am to 5 pm. The project funds come from the Water Recreation Resource Fund and Federal Boating Grant, targeting late November reopening.

FEMA open house in Aiken County at Government Center

Aiken County hosts an open house by FEMA at the County Government Center 1930 University Parkway Sandlapper Hall first floor on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Residents can view flood map changes since the last FIRM and ask questions to insurance specialists. Aiken Corporation meets Wednesday at 10 a.m. in room 204 of the Municipal Building.
