Free Jazz Concert Tonight By U S Army Band at High School

The Jazz Ambassadors of the United States Army Field Band perform a free show at South Aiken High School tonight at 7 30. Specialist John S Montgomery and Master Sergeant Vernon D Ryer are vocal soloists with Sergeant Ryer also on trumpet. The event is sponsored by The Aiken Standard with tickets from local chambers of commerce and The Aiken Standard.

Stable Ordinance To Be Aired In Aiken City Council

Citizens who want to build private stables in residential areas may need public notice. Aiken City Council will hear second reading and a public hearing on a zoning ordinance amendment at 7 30 in the regular monthly meeting. The agenda also includes annexation of property in southwest Aiken and a vote on joining a Municipal Association defense fund at a $400 cost. The council meets first Monday each month in the Municipal Building council chambers.

Court Begins Monday in Aiken County for Robbery Case

General Sessions Court opens at 10 a.m. Monday in the Aiken County Courthouse with Rodney Peeples presiding. The State presents its case against Jimmy Lee Graves and Willie Lee Furtick for the April 18 1982 Kwik Shop robbery on S C 19. Guilty pleas are expected.

Aiken Man Charged In Shooting

James B. Adkinson, 37, of Aiken County, was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill in a shooting that wounded Freddie DeVaughn Johnson, 45, Tuesday night at Wayside Park near U.S. 1. A .38 special gun was recovered near the scene and Johnson remained in critical condition at Richland Memorial Hospital.

Wholesale prices rise 7.5 percent annual rate in August
