Racial balance improves in Aiken middle school plan
The revised rezoning plan approved by the Aiken County Board of Education moves sixth graders from Pinecrest Millbrook and Aiken Elementary to the junior high to ease racial disparities. A citizen committee will be formed with one representative from each school and elections aimed for September with a report to the board by March on a comprehensive citywide rezoning plan.

Passenger, Pedestrian Killed in Edgefield County Crash
A 25 year old Belvedere man Jeffrey Sheridan died when his car left Martintown Road and hit a tree. He was a passenger in the vehicle. The crash occurred at 4 20 p m about 12 miles from Edgefield. An 8 year old Belvedere girl Kendall Kurilla died after being struck on Belair Road at 6 20 p m and dying at 8 55 p m at an Augusta hospital. The driver faces reckless homicide charges.

Graniteville grocer James A. Johnson of 307 Gentry Street faced five state beer and liquor violations after a raid by Graniteville Police. He was charged with sale of beer and liquor to minors and storing liquor without a license, held on 6300 bond. Police seized 80 cases of beer four cases of wine and two cases of whiskey amid parent complaints of underage purchases.

September Term Opens at General Sessions Court
