Aiken Standard Adds New Daily Sections and The Good Life

Beginning Tuesday the Aiken Standard expands to at least three sections daily with full color comics and Accu Weather forecast for Aiken County. The new third section names include The Good Life on health and lifestyle, Food, Weekend, Business, Wheels, and Youths for younger readers.

Arts school opens for first class in Greenville

The Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities welcomed its first 190 students as they began moving into dorms in Greenville. The new class marks the start of the initial school year at the ambitious arts education center.

Carolina First Hopeland Horse Trials Wraps Second Day

The two day event at Hopeland Farms tested speed stamina and jumping as 220 horses competed across three divisions beginner novice and training. Riders and horses crossed fences logs ditches and a pond through rolling hills and woods while organizers Robert Dennison and Julia Hovey praised the friendly competitive atmosphere.

Florence teen joins Greenville creative writing program

The 17 year old Jackie Wilson of Florence said this is the best opportunity of her life after being accepted into a $24 million arts school project on the Reedy River in Greenville. The facility will teach arts, music, dance and creative writing with classes held around the city while campus buildings are prepared.

Labor Day event at Riverview Park kicks off at 3 PM with free entry. Activities include food rides games and fireworks. National anthem at 4 PM followed by Selisa Cox Sweet Adalines Desert Wind Band Shiloh and Brad Paisley. Fireworks at 9 PM and a safety water blast from a fire truck. Union image questioned as reform efforts advance
