Aiken County Schools See Enrollment Rise Ahead of Projections

The 11 day count shows 25 189 students in Aiken County schools up 261 from original projections. Superintendent Dr Linda Eldridge says the rise supports not over hiring while Assistant Superintendent Dr Bill Gallman notes the district may hire 12 to 13 more teachers and will review counts by school grade and class at Tuesday meeting.

Home Depot to Open in Heritage Square with Board Cutting

Home Depot plans a December 9 grand opening at the Heritage Square Shopping Center beside Dillard’s. The event will feature a ceremonial board cutting rather than a ribbon, with a contractor night the evening before and early morning business start the next day. The 111,000 square foot store will include a nursery and 500 parking spaces and employ about 120 to 150 people.

Jobless rate hits record low amid modest August hiring

Washington unemployment fell to 4.2 percent in August, a 29 year low, while payroll gains slowed to 124 000. Wages edged up 0.2 percent, fueling hopes the Fed will hold rates steady at the October meeting as markets rallied on the news.
