Police urge safe driving this Labor Day weekend
Law enforcement warns against drunk driving during Labor Day travel. Hitchcock Woods reopens South Boundary entrance and crossing
The Hitchcock Woods Foundation announced that the South Boundary Avenue entrance and the Coker Spring Trail crossing of Sand River are now open to the public. Woods Superintendent Bennett Tucker said residents have waited patiently for the safety repairs after heavy runoff in June and July last year exposed a buried sewer line.

Murder suspect denied bond in 2008 case
Antonio Miller 32 of Columbia was denied bond in General Sessions court and awaits trial in the 2008 murder of Frederick Tucker. Miller is held at Alvin S. Glenn detention center with co defendants Ronald Grooms Marquise Redfield and Melvin Cummings. Cummings pleaded guilty in 2010 to voluntary manslaughter and received 20 years. the others await trial.
