Who owns ideas at Cambridge sparking a rights battle
Cambridge University debates whether to own all rights to faculty ideas and inventions, shifting from private and public fund ownership to staff equity. The plan, supported by equality across staff, faces strong opposition from professors who warn it could dampen innovation and undermine Cambridge’s high tech economy known as Silicon Fen. Critics fear the move would put profit ahead of public good and force researchers to quit.
