Origins of face jugs explored by North Augusta resident
North Augusta resident Mark Newell will discuss the origins and history of face jugs at a Tuesday lecture at the Jeff Maxwell Branch Library in Augusta from 6 to 7 pm. He challenges the common tale that jugs with scary features were made to deter children from whiskey, presenting research from Ceramics in America on Edgefield County and enslaved Africans linked to The Wanderer.
