Katherine Lewis and National Guard members joined Silver Bluff's community effort against substance abuse. The SADD SAVE club, now 73 members, organized a large anti drug event with local business support and a prior safe sober tailgate on campus.
Sandra Myers and others spoke at a candlelight vigil for domestic violence survivors. The Cumbee Center offers help for women and children leaving abusive homes, and participants reported renewed strength from shared stories and support. Call 649 480 for services.

Kern claims Poultry Power incurred 11 000 in removal costs after nine months of sludge storage at a poultry plant. DHEC initially permitted storage up to six months, then ordered removal, with sludge moved to locations in Aiken County and later across Carolinas. The suit seeks 11 000 plus 18 percent interest.
The Aiken County Registrations and Elections office will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday to conduct absentee voting for the upcoming general elections. Absentee ballots are available for voters out of county on election day, those 65 or older, and about a dozen other qualifiers. Call 642-2028 for eligibility details.
Belk at Aiken Mall hosts a Halloween costume contest for children 12 and under at 6 pm with prizes for first through third place. The Aiken Mall plans a 7 pm trunk or treat parade for under 12s and free trick-or-treat bags for youngsters. County EMS will run a trick-or-treat event at seven EMS substations across Aiken County starting at 6:30 pm with candy distributed at Substations 1 through 7 including Belvedere Langley New Ellenton Wagener Aiken and more.
The Aiken High School Wind Ensemble will perform Tuesday November 11 at South Aiken High starting at 7 30 p m. Admission is 2 for adults and 51 for students. The public is welcome.
