State Fire Marshal McMullen links a crude barbecue pit found at a construction site to the deadly Oakland blaze. Investigators believe the grass fire started there and rekindled, killing 25 and destroying thousands of homes. Two construction workers tested negative for lie detector results.
A 13 year old boy shot and killed his father after a dispute over the boy s poor report card. Lepolicus Miller III 36 of San Diego was slain at a National City home where the boy lived with grandparents. The youth fled but later surrendered and remained in Juvenile Hall.
