Citadel Cadet Protections Under Review After Racial Incident
Five white cadets who wore sheets and yelled obscenities at black freshman Kevin Nesmith and left a burned cross on his floor will be punished this week. Maj. Gen. James Grimsley announced a board of review and a committee to probe racial discrimination claims. The incident occurred Thursday as Nesmith slept in his room. his roommate Michael Mendoza exposed the cadets' identities. Grimsley called it verbal hazing and said the five cadets confessed.
