Thousands of Negro students are expected to stay home in Memphis on Monday as part of the Black Monday protests ahead of a planned November 3 citywide work stoppage. Last weeks saw 65 723 pupils and 674 teachers out. city officials threaten compulsory attendance penalties and possible dismissals for teachers.
In Sydney AP reports the Liberal-Country coalition leads Labor by four seats with 62 to 58 after five of 125 seats counted. Final results depend on absentee ballots later this week. Prime Minister Gorton predicts a small majority, Whitlam refuses to concede, Freeth may have lost his seat. Labor campaigned to end the draft and bring troops home from Vietnam.
President Nixon flew back to the White House by helicopter in midafternoon Sunday after a weekend at Camp David in Maryland. He traveled without family or top advisers as he prepared his November 3 national address on the Vietnam War.

A theft during a football game at Columbia High School led to the loss of about 74 dollars and two sets of keys from lockers used by Columbia players. Principal J O Willis notes rising thefts at area schools and says lockers were not locked though the room was. Det V J Ray says entry was likely through a window and that incidents have increased in October with car thefts and stolen items at games and school.
A 17 year old Aiken youth William Mann of Furman Drive was seriously hurt in a motorcycle car collision on Whiskey Road near Mitchell Shopping Center Saturday. He was taken to University Hospital Augusta with head injuries. Officer Robert Funk said the crash occurred about 4 20 p.m. Mann collided with a car driven by Jeraldine Day Beck 30 of Luther Street Graniteville who pulled out from the shopping center to turn into Eckerds Drugs parking lot. Becks car suffered left rear quarter panel damage. Mann was said to be doing all right by hospital officials last night. No charges were filed pending further investigation.
In Usti nad Labem a district court sentenced 10 of 50 youths to five months to two years for breaking windows demolishing rooms and setting fire to a Soviet army vehicle during the March riot at a regional occupation headquarters. Damages were about 12500 dollars. Similar anti Soviet disturbances followed Czechoslovakia's ice hockey World Championship win in Sweden.
Government troops clashed twice with North Vietnamese soldiers near Ben Het on Highway 979, with 23 enemy fighters killed in those battles. Two VB forces suffered 2 dead and 9 wounded, while ranger units reported 10 enemy kills. US forces also reported an ambush that killed one American and wounded 13.
AP report from Saigon states Radio Hanoi announced three Americal Division soldiers listed as missing would be released. The trio Watkins Strickland and Tinsley have miss dates from 1968 to 1969. No time date or place for release was given.

A burglary on Burgundy Road targeted George S. Jones Jr. A mink stole a 38 caliber pistol a color television and a pair of diamond earrings were taken. The break in occurred around 10 p.m. Thursday through a forced back door. Police report no suspects and the case is under investigation.
