A mimeographed letter signed by Subsecretary Juan Achurra Larrain notified foreign news agencies of the expanded censorship effective Wednesday night amid a brief army protest over pay. A censor was assigned to review all incoming dispatches to El Mercurio and other Chilean papers.
Lee R. Hayes former Pueblo radioman urged Aiken residents at a junior high auditorium to oppose communism. He warned that leaders avoid war and that Vietnam and Korea show the danger of a Communist victory. Three people James Lee Hayes his wife Joan Hayes and Lou Jennie Smith were arrested in Aiken County on drug law violations. Hayes faced five counts later reduced after a circuit judge order following a $20 000 surety bond. Police recovered four bottles of illegal pep pills from Hayes auto with others aiding the investigation by Sheriff Paul Grant Dr Thomas Wyatt and several deputies. Hayes previously arrested near Olar in Bamberg County and released on $20 000 bond.
South Carolina lawmakers were asked to visit a pilot 5 year old kindergarten program in November and complete an evaluation. The state plans to expand or revise the program with a proposed $1 million increase for 1970 1971 to add 135 double session kindergartens.
