Court Term Under Way in Aiken General Sessions Court

The state plans 119 indictments this week as general sessions court convenes at Aiken County Courthouse on Park Ave. Cases may include murder and a criminal sexual assault. 98 new indictments are expected this week per the solicitor’s office.

Belvedere Officer Charged With Bingo Record Violations

Belvedere commander Robert Gary of Army Navy Garrison 2179 faces 15 counts for failing to submit bingo gross receipt records for April 1981 to the state Tax Commission. Each count carries potential fines up to $200 and one year in prison. Magistrate B J Millwood released him on a $750 personal recognizance bond after his Thursday arrest.

Defense Minister Ariel Sharon testified before a commission on the Sept. massacre in west Beirut saying he authorized Christian militia entry into refugee camps after consulting the army chief. He said Begin was informed only that areas would be seized and was not told Sabra and Chatila camps would be involved. Begin reportedly learned of the massacre from news reports the night of Sept. 18.
