County to hire new officers at Gravat Detention Center
Aiken County Council unanimously approved $134,000 in reserve funds to hire 15 part time detention officers for the Doris C. Grav at Detention Center. Director John Rowley said the move gives staffing flexibility to cover days off and sick leave while managing a rising inmate population. The center currently holds about 340 inmates with the E pod remaining open.

Aiken County deputy Cory Still 29 from Aiken was seriously injured when his 1983 Harley collided with a tele phone pole near Whiskey Road and Easy Street at about 1 am. Speed was 35 mph and helmet not worn. Charges pending.

Heart transplant brings new life to South Carolina mom
Lynda Edwards, 41, recovered after Oct 9 heart transplant at MUSC following a July heart attack and quadruple bypass. She praises the medical team and cites three weeks on the transplant list.
