Transition plans shape for Savannah River liquid waste contractor
The Savannah River Site moves toward a new liquid waste contractor, Savannah River EcoManagement LLC, taking over from Savannah River Remediation in a 90 day handoff. BWXT Technical Services Group Inc Bechtel National Inc and Honeywell International Inc form the new team with SRR transitioning responsibilities including salt waste processing and the Salt Waste Processing Facility. York Street bridges named for Skipper Perry in Aiken
The South Carolina Department of Transportation named the two York Street bridges in honor of the late Robert Spence Perry known as Skipper Perry. Perry was a former state representative and Aiken City Councilman who advocated sidewalk access for handicapped citizens and died June 18 after attending the bridges ribbon cutting.

Florida man sentenced in shooting death case
Florida man Leric Merriweather was sentenced to 40 years for the June 2016 killing of Mantrell Troutman in Edgefield County after a cookout dispute. Troutman confronted Merriweather, who fired killing Troutman and wounding two others, Keith Mathis and Carlo Harris. The investigation involved Edgefield Police, the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office, and Johnston Police Department.
