Municipal Court judge granted James Brown a jury trial in Richmond County State Court and ordered drug and alcohol treatment plus an alcohol and driving ban while charges await. Brown, on a European tour, did not attend. He faces DUI, suspended license and improper movement charges with a trial date not yet set.
In Washington AP reports Glasnost could reach American TV ads for Zhiguli a top Soviet beer. A proposed joint venture with American investors aims to sell Zhiguli and other Soviet products such as Laggidze Waters a fruit flavored soft drink from Georgia in the U S market.

A Boeing 737 operated by Indian Airlines crashed on final approach near Ahmadabad in dense fog, killing 130 of 129 passengers and six crew. Five survivors were pulled from the burning wreckage. A second crash in Assam state killed all 34 aboard a Fokker Friendship en route from Silchar to Guwahati.
