Aiken High School defeated Lexington 4-3 as Stacey Percival and Jessica Grainger won a decisive third set 7-1 in a four hour match. The victory moved Aiken to 12-0 overall, 8-0 in Region 4-AAAA, needing one win to clinch the regional title. Lexington dropped to 4-3 in the region.
Florida, trailing in the NLCS, rode Josh Beckett's relief effort and a late surge to beat the Cubs 9 6 at Wrigley. Beckett, after his 115 pitch load in Game 5, started the fifth inning and helped Florida advance to face either the Red Sox or Yankees in the World Series.
Aiken High School boys take four of the top five with Patrick McKay winning in 16:34 and teammate Jake Morris second. Aiken scores 16 to South Aiken 50 and Lexington 59 as Amy Laughlin leads South Aiken girls to the title with a strong finish.
South Aiken High seeks rebound after back to back uneven showings as it prepares for Lexington. Coach Dan Pippin cites recent wins over Silver Bluff and No. 10 Orangeburg Wilkinson and aims to slow Lexington's dominant series run. The Thoroughbreds seek improvement to challenge a high scoring, historically strong opponent.
