Error allows killer to post bail in Beaufort County case
South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster blamed a paperwork error for a released inmate, Thomas G. Rye, 60, who killed off duty Beaufort County deputy Robert Odam. Rye posted 50 000 bail after 10 months of a 30 year sentence, while appealing. The office failed to oppose the bond petition and later sought reconsideration.
