Seniors at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center receive monthly pet visits from four dogs and a cat. The Aiken City Council denied a rezoning request from R-1A to Neighborhood Business and Light Industrial for a large Rutland Drive parcel. Robber sentenced to 20 years by judge in state court

Ulysses Johnson, 45, was sentenced to 20 years in the state penitentiary for attempted murder in an armed robbery case. Augusta man faced Judge Charles Whetstone as week-long criminal court session opened. Assistant Solicitor Patricia Corey said the sentence was the maximum possible on the plea. Johnson allegedly tried to cover up the crime by killing the victim, Ulysses Jordan, a store and check cashing service operator in February.
