Suspect Charged in Bath Woman Death and Robberies

Aiken man is charged Tuesday with first degree murder, grand larceny, grand larceny auto, criminal sexual conduct, armed robbery and assault in connection with the death of 72 year old Elizabeth Gatti in Bath. Deputies found her body after responders reported concerns at her home on Friday. Two televisions and a 1972 Buick LeSabre were missing and later found near a Grey Street powerline easement. Authorities allege involvement in other robberies, including the Belvedere store cash clerk shooting.

Bonds Help Pay For Rec Project

The Aiken City Council approved 82. million in spending for recreation facilities with 2.2 million from a new bond issue. About 1 million for five softball fields and a new gym will come from a previous bond. The plan uses existing funds for debt service and avoids tax increases in 1999 84, but officials warn future costs may rise. Councils members Clyburn Price and Mayor Cav anaugh opposed.

South Carolina Teen Birth Rates Rise Through 1991

Washington reports show South Carolina teen births climbed from 38.2 to 17.1 per 1000 aged 15-17 between 1986 and 1991, tying with Tennessee for third highest regional rise while North Carolina led with a 30 percent jump. In 1989 Siken Regional Medical Centers recorded 888 births, 198 to teenage mothers.
