Aiken County weighs TIF backed housing plan

The Aiken County School Board and Council consider a $36 million TIF backed project by Fine Deering Development Group to build two housing developments off Bettis Academy and Old Trolley Line roads. Wise declines to appeal in four‑death row case

The South Carolina Supreme Court has not received a petition for reconsideration from Hastings Arthur Wise and no death warrant has yet been issued. Wise, convicted in 2001 for the September 1997 killings of four Phelan Co. employees in Aiken, remains poised for execution with the date to be set as the fourth Friday after the warrant.

Local piano prodigies Christine and Thomas Hang shine

Siblings Christine 14 and Thomas 9 prove talents at the piano under Mary Losey. Christine performed with the Augusta Symphony youth concert after winning senior division. Thomas won junior division and also plays for the Aiken Augusta Swim League. Both trained by Losey and honored with multiple awards at the Aiken Music Festival and state auditions.
