Modern chemists turn sewer gas into diamonds in lab work
Washington AP reports Dr. James E. Butler and colleagues at the Naval Research Laboratory produce tiny industrial diamond crystals from methane in sewer gas at Blue Plains Waste Water Plant. Other NRL chemists grow diamond crystals with an oxygen acetylene torch. LAS CRUCES AP reports Officer Bill Schatzman, 23, accidentally shot in the right foot twice while off duty, first Sunday at home and previously Sept 28. Police Chief Ron J. Axtell notes weapon security rules and vows review. Schatzman listed in good condition at Memorial General Hospital.

Panel Hears Options On Indigent Care Plan
Aiken County considers options as University Hospital of Augusta plans to end obstetric services for county residents by October 31 and resume non emergency care only for indigent patients starting July 1, 1989. Dyke Industries Selects Aiken for $1 Million Plant
Dyke Industries announces a new manufacturing, sales and distribution operation in Aiken County. The Little Rock firm will create 50 to 65 jobs, generate over $1 million in revenue, and be fully operational by November 15. Gerry Allen will head the operation, with all local hires except him.
