Nielsen seeks PSAT funding in SC education budget
South Carolina Education Superintendent Barbara Nielsen proposes a 1998 99 budget totaling about 2.6 billion dollars to fund PSAT testing for all 49 000 tenth graders at a cost of 500 000. She argues PSAT results can lift SAT scores while several states already cover the test. The plan adds 644 million dollars beyond last year’s appropriation with little admin funding for her agency as education becomes a gubernatorial issue.
