Surprise winner: Mary Alice Lockhart takes Best of Show
Mary Alice Lockhart, new to competitive art, wins Best of Show in the Amateur Division at the State Fair Art Exhibit. The 38 by 48 inch work Wild Crabapple at Edge of Wood earned top honors. Morris Family Farm-Aiken County won second in culture and agriculture. Lockhart credits USC Aiken instructor Al Beyer for guidance and notes free classes for senior citizens helped her return to painting after years focused on family and work as a nurse. Her brother helped transport the large painting to Columbia for entry.
