Four Whooping Cranes Migrating South From Colorado
At least four cranes, offspring of an experiment to save the endangered species, are migrating to winter nests. Two hatched in the spring from Canadian eggs were raised by sandhill crane foster parents. A fifth has reached New Mexico, a sixth remains in Idaho, and a seventh is believed en route. an eighth died Sunday.

Tanker Overpass Crash Injures Driver on Savannah River Span
Milner Super Gas Inc of Aiken reports a gasoline tanker driven by Manford Barron toppled from a Gordon Highway overpass into the access road below after swerving to avoid a parked car. Barron suffered a fractured cheekbone. The tanker, valued about $50,000, was empty. Milner said the vehicle is repairable.

Graniteville Man Shot Dead at Town House Motel
A Graniteville man, Frank Simpkins, was shot six times with a .32 pistol at the Town House Motel. Dora B. Johnson of Aiken, a motel employee, is jailed on murder charges after an argument led to the shooting. Simpkins died following emergency surgery. Both are described as black.
