Ten digit dialing to start in 2020 for Aiken area
The 803 area code will overlay 839 in Aiken Chester Richland Sumter and Allendale counties requiring 10 digit local dialing starting October 26 2019 with a full transition to 10 digits by April 25 2020. Existing numbers remain unchanged but equipment and dialing systems will need reprogramming to accommodate the new format.
