U.S. Leads Russians in Submarine Warfare Capabilities
Navy sources say the United States is about a decade ahead of the Soviet Union in antisubmarine warfare ASW capability while stressing secrecy over Polaris subs. They note American sonar outperforms Russian systems, but acknowledge four new Russian submarine types and rising noise levels in Soviet designs. The discussion touches on tactics to shield Polaris boats and questions about mid 70s breakthroughs. Also noted is Corrigan’s 1938 Dublin flight arriving 28 hours 13 minutes after leaving New York.
