Sanford cites further budget cuts amid revenue shortfall
Governor Mark Sanford warned of a persistent revenue gap likely forcing across the board cuts for state agencies by year end. He said next year could begin with a 350 to 500 million dollar deficit and, if needed before January, the State Budget and Control Board will implement indiscriminate cuts affecting all agencies. He spoke in Aiken during a whistle stop tour highlighting small business. he cited Gene Kneece’s Aiken Lumber Co. and noted the state has a 7 percent income tax with hopes to lower it toward 4.25 to 4.62 percent ranges.
