Roberts Bros Circus Delights Aiken With 3 Ring Show

The Roberts Bros Circus arrived in Aiken on Wednesday at the Fairgrounds on U S 1 North for two roughly hour and a half performances. Ringmaster Bill Schreiber led a parade of acts including aerial artistes trampoline artists and clowns with Rodo the Clown signing programs for children. Featured animals included Liberty Ponies Peruvian llamas Vietnamese potbellied pigs three dogs performing on a horse and Lisa the 7000 pound elephant. Stacy Gregory and her mother Debbie noted the new trampoline act and possible more animals than last year.

Kent Drops Bid For Senate Seat

The Rev William Kent of Beech Island said he is withdrawing from the Senate District 24 race to focus on his faith and personal testimony. The 64 year old Baptist minister, a lifelong Aiken County resident, cited negative political attitudes and his calling to serve citizens as he steps away from politics. He plans to continue urging lawmakers to act in citizens’ interests and to press state officials on public needs.

Busy Election Day Ahead For Vote Counters In South Carolina

Columbia reports a record number of South Carolinians registered to vote for the November 3 election, with the State Election Commission aiming to reach or exceed 1.5 million. As of Friday, 1,473,000 were registered, over 57 percent of eligible voters, far surpassing 1988 totals. Den ton Johnson notes Aiken County saw a surge as 56,000 registered by last week, expected to rise past 59,000.
