Electrical short causes small SRP fire atop waste tank

A brief electrical short circuit sparked a small fire on top of waste tank No. 13 in H-Area at Savannah River Plant. Plant firefighters contained the smoke, with no radioactivity release or danger to workers or the public. Initial cause ruled a lamp overheat before investigation confirmed a short circuit.

Unemployment Drops as Education Jobs Drive Gain

The Civilian unemployment rate fell 0.2 points to 5.4 percent last month while payrolls rose by 255,000. Education added 100,000 jobs with the new school term, private industry up 142,000. Oil and gas and assembly lines declined, adult men drove the overall drop, Hispanic unemployment fell to 7.4 percent.
