AccuWeather predicts a cool down starting tonight with 62 degree lows under cloudy skies. Saturday highs reach 74 followed by a drastic weekend drop to 48 overnight and 61 during the day on Sunday. By Monday highs hover in the upper 50s and lows in the 30s with a slight rally to 66 on Tuesday.
Former Governor David Beasley, a longtime opponent of the lottery, urged voters at a No Lottery 2000 rally in Sumter. He argued anti-lottery efforts are a Republican activist push while noting other political figures remain focused on the 2000 referendum and 2002 gubernatorial prospects.

In Warrenville a forum organized by the Warrenville Community Improvement Council featured a debate between Aiken County Council chairman hopeful Jack Montgomery and Republican incumbent Ronnie Young. Montgomery attacked taxes and county administration, suggesting possible abolition of the chairman role, while Young defended council growth data. Other candidates opposed the state lottery and social issues.
Columbia investigators seek the hit and run driver who killed dentist Harry Sunshine. Authorities questioned the 182 owners of white Lexus GS 300s built 1993 to 1996 and registered in Richland County after paint chips linked the vehicle to the fatal bicycle collision on Two Notch Road. FBI Lab and SLED handle evidence.
