Aiken County netted about 175000 from a public auction of 307 parcels over two days. Monday sales brought 74466 and yesterday's sales about 100000 with bidding peaking at 12000 for 79 acres near Wagener. High bidders face an 18 month wait to gain title while original owners may buy back if they missed the tax deadline.

Jaycee Fair Opens With Transformed Grounds And Rides

The Jaycee County Fairgrounds soldly transformed as dozens of trucks delivered green gator and black bumblebee rides plus a merry go round and several thrill rides. Morgan Receives Secretary's Award for Waste Management Leadership

Robert L. Morgan, manager of the Savannah River Operations Office, was honored with the U.S. Department of Energy Secretary's Award in Washington. Secretary Donald Paul Hodel praised Morgan for outstanding service in establishing the Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management and guiding the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982 program. Effective January 25, 1983, Morgan also became project director for implementation planning of the Act.
