Couchton residents must pay 30 dollar subscriptions for fire protection. Payments may be made at Southeastern Tool Company weekdays 8 am to 5 pm or at the firehouse Tuesdays 7 pm to 9 pm or by mail to Couchton Fire Dept P.O. Box 3 Aiken 29801.
North Augusta City Council will hold first and second readings at 7 30 p m on the ordinance creating the position of ministerial recorder. The meeting is set for City Hall on Buena Vista Avenue.
Paul Ebel will address the Aiken Lions Club on drug and alcohol abuse in schools. The meeting is at 6:50 p.m. tonight at the Lions Hut on S.C. 19 North.
The Women’s Club of Wagener will host caroling and lights on December 3 as the town council approves the ceremony. Citizens will vote December 14 for two new four year council seats. Filing closes October 26 per town clerk Martha Cole.
At the Aiken Rotary Club meeting Dennis Quinn, plant manager of Kimberly-Clark Beech Island, introduced a slide show titled A Flair for Fibers. Student guests Robin Warren Drew Lanham Jane Little and Eric Hicks spoke. September and October visitors were noted. The club meets Mondays at 12 45 p m at the Pub of the Ramada Inn.
Belvedere Water and Sewer District levies taxes totaling 92.31 mills. The figure of 321,850 dollars was announced to Aiken County Council in a letter from William E. Horton, chairman of the Belvedere Commission. The tax breakdown shows 241,350 dollars for general operations and 80,500 dollars for debt service.
The Mental Health Association Family Support Group will meet at Progress House 216 Richad Ave at 7 30 Thursday. Parking is available at the rear of the house.

The Aiken County Narcotics Division arrested sixteen people in the Wagener Salley Perry area over the weekend between 8 p m Saturday and 8 a m Sunday after months of investigation. Charges include sale of marijuana possession with intent to sell and manufacturing marijuana with several juveniles involved. About five pounds of marijuana and 2000 dollars in cash were seized. Some arrestees face simple possession charges and will be processed through family court.
The Greater North Augusta Chamber of Commerce announces the North Augusta Health Services Center is now open at 529 Georgia Ave. The center houses Aiken-Barnwell Mental Health Aiken County Health Department Aiken County Drug and Alcohol Abuse and Health Help. A formal opening will be Sunday Nov 7 at 2 p.m.
