Rudnick Seeks Interim to Permanent Public Defender Post

Rudnick, interim public defender and son of Irene and Harold Rudnick, has applied to permanently replace outgoing James E. Whittle Jr. The Public Defender Corporation, a four-lawyer panel, approved a Oct 1 to Dec 31 interim term and will accept applications for the full-time role. Whittle resigned Sept 29 to join Johnson and Johnson.

Four Salvadoran Aliens Die in Heat Packed Truck in Edinburg

In Edinburg Texas authorities found four Salvadoran aliens dead and eleven others in distress in a locked air conditioned tractor trailer abandoned on a road shoulder. The truck left from San Salvador with about fifty migrants via Mexico and the air conditioner failed in the 90 degree heat. Police investigated after a fire attempt failed and some migrants were removed in another vehicle while others remained inside.

Willcox Hotel’s safety failures threaten city action

Willcox Hotel owner Joseph Eways faces possible demolition after Friday safety inspection showed two of seven standards unmet including 24 hour security and an alarm system. City Council will decide at Monday night meeting whether to pursue removal while Eways contests the findings. Busbee and Frommer said a July 16 suit allows demolition if unresolved.
