Savannah River Remediation, the liquid waste contractor for the Savannah River Site, furloughs roughly 1,400 employees until further notice due to the federal government shutdown. A ceremony in Columbia read the names of 48 domestic violence victims from the state. Ashley Kaney and her daughter Riley Burdick were killed in Summerville, and Kaney’s suspect confessed.
