Vision volunteers help repair homes in Aiken area
About 800 volunteers from Project Vision and partner groups joined 100 repair and renovation efforts in Aiken County coordinated by the United Way. Workers from the Housing Authority Bridgestone Firestone and ACTS helped with painting door screens and furniture removal while First Presbyterian Church groups prepared meals and bags for the needy. Community leaders praised the day as a powerful example of volunteer effort benefiting families and agencies in need.

The Horseplay Unveiled Street Festival offers a first look at 31 fiberglass horses at the Newberry Festival Center today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free admission, with unveiling at 12:30 p.m. by the artists. Families can enjoy food, shopping and entertainment.

Horseplay fair and horse events fill Aiken weekend
Aiken hosts a busy weekend with the Horseplay street fair featuring 30 life sized fiberglass horses in Downtown, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Katydid Driving Club events run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday with dressage, obstacle driving, and a cross country marathon. The Aiken Fall Classic show jumping runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with four foot six inch barriers and divisions for style and speed.

Wreck on Highway 278 Sends Cars Down Embankment
Emergency crews respond to a two car crash on Highway 278 near Savannah River Site property. A woman airlifted with a severe head injury, another patient transported by ambulance to MCG. One vehicle, driven by Richard DeNatale, rolled 25 feet into trees after a clip from a slow moving car. Juveniles from one family were among the occupants. Traffic delayed over two hours on the two lane road.
